What could be more appropriate than a hockey game to celebrate 25 years of Canada-Kazakhstan relations, and SAIT played a big part in it. For more than four years SAIT has been providing petroleum programming in the country and was tasked with creating the championship trophy for the big game. Staff and students in SAIT's Design, Testing and Fabrication lab, through SAIT's Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) built the beautiful 12kg cup. The base is aluminum and the upper portion is 3D printed with steel powder and infused with liquid bronze. The "Heritage Cup" represents the relationship between Kazakhstan and Canada. The Canadian flag is on top with the Kazakh rising sun, the eagle, Kazakhstan's national bird, is inside, and wheat stalks which represent farming in Kazakhstan. The cup also honours SAIT's centennial and Canada's 150th birthday. Over 500 participants will take part, including the main event between Canada and Kazakhstan, with the winner hoisting the cup.
