The SAIT Centennial Mentoring Program kicked off with strong participation from twenty-three pairs of SAIT protégés and their professional mentors. The program started in October with mentoring training for both protégés and mentors, and completion of an Insights assessment to help each participant understand how they prefer to think, work and behave. Protégés are SAIT students in their final year of study, representing nearly all SAIT schools with the highest participation from the School of Business. Half of the mentor group are SAIT alumni, six mentors are current SAIT staff, and all come from diverse backgrounds and industries including oil and gas, food, hospitality, construction, education, nonprofit, information, manufacturing, government, chemical, health care, and transport.
The program ran from Oct., 2016 to May 2017, and as well as the training event a kickoff event was held in Nov., 2016; a mid-year bowling and speed networking event was held in Jan. 2017, and a year-end wrap event was held at SAIT's culinary campus. The mentors and protégés were encouraged to meet often between these events. In the end-of-project survey more than half of the respondents said they will continue to keep in touch.
